Platform
Web, Tablet, Mobile
I led the end-to-end redesign of our global login and student registration, reducing support tickets and driving growth in new logins and registrations.
Business impact
43%
Growth in initial logins
50%
Reduction in login-related support tickets
PROBLEM SPACE
Our login flow was outdated and difficult for kids to use
STUDENTS STRUGGLED
K-5 students couldn't log in or register autonomously, 90% needed adult support.
TEACHER BURDEN
Teachers had to step in during class to help students log in.
HIGH TICKET VOLUME
Login failures and registration confusion drove support tickets up.

User testing with our most vulnerable users
We tested the former login with K-5 students via UserZoom, having them complete tasks, logging in, creating accounts, entering class codes, without parental support.
90%
Couldn't log in autonomously
6/8
Needed adult support to create an account
All
Needed simpler language and clearer steps

discovery
Journey Mapping
I created a journey map with my PM to outline areas of impact, tasks, and touchpoints across the login, enter code, and registration flows.

This surfaced where friction was highest, across logging in, password/username recovery, subscribing, and switching products, and where we could intervene most effectively.

Sketching
To kickstart the design process, I sketched across the student and teacher login flows, staying generative before moving into hi-fi.

1
User type identifier
Early thinking on how to split the student vs. teacher entry point.
2
QR code login concept
Explored scanning a badge or code as an alternative to typed credentials.
3
Teacher login layout
Structuring the adult-facing login with product selection built in.
4
Onboarding concept
First pass at guiding new students through account setup.

Metrics for Success
We outlined what success looked like to validate the new experience and guide design decisions.
01
Engagement
Increased baseline of weekly active users.
02
Login Improvement
Decrease in login failures across user types.
03
Product Knowledge
Decrease in wrong product access errors.
04
Proving Progress
Increase in assignment completion in BrainPOP.

Student Login
Before & After
Login is now moved out of a modal stacked over a marketing page and into its own dedicated screen, built around the task.
BEFORE

AFTER
Entering a class code is now a consistent, on-brand pattern for students joining a class with just a code, no full login required.

AFTER
Final designs
Student Registration
The single overwhelming form became a short series of steps, each asking for one thing at a time.

Design Decisions
1
Reducing cognitive overload

Broke the single-page form into focused steps, each asking for one thing, with inline guidance to catch errors before they happen
2
Guidance to reduce errors

Popovers help remind students of key actions to support autonomous completion
3
Sense of achievement

Celebratory confirmation page with a micro-animation marks a positive pre-onboarding moment
Final designs
Educator Login
1
Adult tone for educators
Straightforward copy written for teachers
2
Intentional product pathways
Selecting a product routes directly into that experience with no extra steps in between.
3
Admin & direct access

Admin dashboard and reports sit alongside a direct path to the last-used product.
4
Consistency in enter code experience

Adults get a visual language of their own, separate from the student flow.
